We had a fun weekend. Friday night Shane was invited to a surprise birthday party and I was invited to a last minute movie party. Fun!
Saturday Logan had a pajama breakfast at church so Shane and I went, quicky, to IHOP, the library, and ran a couple quick errands. Then we came home and played. Yep, we played and effectively ignored our chores once again. This can't become habit! The weather was so beautiful that we had to take advantage of it. This was the warmest day we've had in months. First we brought the dogs on a like long hike at Marlatt Park, then we came home and played kick ball, went on a short bike ride which included going to the river via the new "park" down the block from us, played more kick ball, then played Sardines. For those who don't know, Sardines is like a backwards game of hide and seek. Only one person hides and the rest of the group counts and then goes searching for the hider. As the players find the person hiding they join them, often becoming like sardines by all hiding in a small place.
Since it was so nice outside we played sardines outside on our lot, our neighbor's, and an empty lot. It was fun the first round when Logan hid behind a big dirt hill but the second round about killed me! I found Rachel, a friend of ours who was over playing with my kids and her brother Michael, hiding behind another small hill in our back yard. Since I didn't want Logan to see me hiding I stopped running for a minute until he was out of site and then ran really fast (or tried to) to join Rachel and the others hiding. Unfortunately my feet did not cooperate. As I started to run again I somehow lost my balance and, as I was picking up speed of course, I fell, rolling head over heals and tumbling badly. I knew right away that I couldn't get up. Didn't even try. I sat on the ground for a minute to catch my breathe and assess damages. My body hurt all over. I decided that I'd hurt both my left ankle and my right knee (or more of my right leg but I couldn't feel it all at first because of the knee pain).
After a couple minutes Logan found the group hiding near me and I sent Shane into the house to get Shaun. The kids had seen me fall and could tell I was hurt. I wasn't hiding it at all, but at least I wasn't crying. Grimacing and holding one's leg are enough. Shaun and Shane helped me up and into the house, just far enough for me to land on the family room couch. I iced my ankle and knee for the rest of the day. That meant I wasn't able to enjoy the warm evening like I'd hoped.
Today, my ankle is fine and doesn't hurt. My right knee and some of my leg has been iced twice today, for about three hours each time. It still really hurts and bruising is starting to show a little. It's going to be pretty bad looking in another day or two, unless the ice was able to prevent some of that. I can go up stairs with some slight pain but going down doesn't work too well. Hopefully I'll be able to be closer to normal in the morning when I have to walk up the hill in front of my building on campus and then handle the steps ok. I might be using the elevator more than I normally do.
Overall, I don't regret it. I loved playing with the kids and had a blast. It felt so wonderful to be outside running around and getting lots of exercise. I rewarded myself with some ice cream while I was laid up, but not enough to waist everything I'd done that day. Now I'm just hoping for more beautiful Spring weather, my favorite season of all!
